Safe By Design Window Coverings
The installation of child safety mechanisms and fail safes has been a legal requirement as of 2014 and must be installed on all window coverings and in all settings, regardless of the presence of a child on the property.
Safe-by-design is a term used to describe window coverings that, due to their design, are not considered hazardous. A simple example would be shutters which are inherently safe-by-design. This style of window covering has no free hanging chains or mechanisms and no quick release or locking functions; all of which are considerations when assessing blind safety.
We strongly advise that our customers alert themselves to the safety functions of all blind types present in their home. Being aware of the potential risks posed by your blinds, the fail safes put in place to counter this risk and how they operate is invaluable in safeguarding vulnerable children and adults from potential injury.
