Honeycomb Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds come in a wide range of colours and these blinds have a honeycomb structure which traps a layer of air between the pleats of the fabric. This means that the shape of the blinds absorbs sound making these a practical and stylish choice. Honeycomb blinds are invariably known as the best possible option for sound proofing as the cellular design traps air and raises the blinds R-value (heat transfer resistance) from 3.5 up to 7! This means that not only does this design sound proof and reduce noise pollution by approximately just over 50%, it is also an excellent heat insulator.

The downside however is that by using these blinds you will forego the tilt options available with options such as shutters and venetians. Your blind must be up or down and so you will forgo light for soundproofing and vice versa. 

Curtains with Acoustic Interlining

Curtains with a special acoustic interlining can also be a good choice as the lining deflects noise. A huge plus of acoustic curtaining is that your choice of fabrics is not limited by the specification so the fabric on the outside can be any from our huge range, giving a massive choice of colours, patterns and textures to choose from. You can also team the acoustic interlining with a blackout lining for the ultimate in darker and quieter bedrooms! 

A little extra tip: Although no window covering will 100% soundproof your room, in the same manner as blackout it is possible to double layer your window. Pairing a cell shade (honeycomb) blind in the recess with acoustic curtains will not only significantly reduce the light in the room but also act as a strong sound barrier. Great news for shift workers everywhere! 

Shutters

Shutters are brilliant insulators of both heat and noise. Our Vazon, Alderney or Herm Ranges are the best as these shutters are made of much denser material than the others. Obviously though the noise reduction only works when the shutter slats are closed!

Wooden Venetian Blinds

These are the  most cost effective way of achieving some sound reduction although not as effective as some of our other blinds, wooden venetian blinds are a stylish addition to any window
