How to Reset the Cord Connector on Wooden Venetian Blinds
Our standard Wooden Venetian Blinds are fitted with a safety cord connector, designed to separate under tension to reduce the risk of injury. This feature is part of the legally required child safety measures and helps prevent hazardous loops from forming in the control cords.
The connector joins the lift cords at the operating end of the blind. If more than approximately 6kg of force is applied — such as during accidental entanglement — the connector is engineered to come apart, releasing the cords to protect children and pets from harm.
Why This Safety Feature Is Important
Looped cords can pose a serious danger, particularly to young children. The connector ensures that in the event of a sudden pull or pressure, the cords no longer form a continuous loop — significantly lowering the risk of strangulation or entrapment. This breakaway function is a legal requirement for all blinds sold in the UK under the BS EN 13120 child safety standard.
How to Reconnect the Cord Connector
If the connector has separated, it will need to be reassembled for the blind to function correctly. The video below demonstrates exactly how to do this. It only takes a few minutes and requires no tools — but it’s essential to follow the steps precisely to ensure the safety mechanism continues to work as intended.
Steps shown in the video include:
- ✅ Identifying the correct orientation of the connector parts
- ✅ Inserting the cords into their corresponding slots
- ✅ Pressing the connector closed until it clicks into place
